Male PPD/PND

Now who would have thought that this health complaint could come from a human being bursting with testosterone?!

Unfortunately, men can suffer from Post Partum Depression too - in fact it has been said that as many as 10-15% of men suffer from this condition. Shocking to say the least!

The Family ‘FLU’

I have not been around recently due to the title of this article.

We got it - and we got it bad. In fact my strength of the flu was mild in comparison to what my daughter and husband had and I was feeling no better than a cup of weak, luke-warm tea - blegh!!

We were informed that this was the tail end of this years flu - and I can tell you that this flu certainly had a sting in it’s tail.

So what do you do when you and your children get the flu? How do you cope? When do you call the doctor? And what saves your sanity?

PND/PPD - Therapy

Although I made a quip about psychologists in my previous PPD/PND article,  I do honestly believe in therapy, just as long as you are not paying for your therapist’s next tropical vacation!! Maybe after a cycle or two of one-on-one sessions, group therapy would be a good next level. Therapy can also become an addiction as you feel the need to express your thoughts and worries but only with your ‘therapist’. A lot of PPD/PND problems can stem from the fact that you feel isolated in your ‘new’ world of motherhood. Whilst a therapist can guide you through these problems, what is also necessary is to compare notes with people who are in the same leaking boat as yourself.

Infertility warning - Low-fat dairy produce

According to a study carried out by Harvard researchers involving thousands of US women, a diet rich on low-fat dairy food may make it harder for some women to conceive. Apparently, the women who frequently ate low-fat dairy products (yoghurt, cheese, milk, etc.) were 85% more likely to have ovulation problems.

In contrast, the Human Reproduction study found eating full-fat dairy foods, including ice cream, can add to fertility problems as this may increase the risk of being obese.

However, UK experts are skeptical as they believe there is insufficient evidence of a link between the two.

Natural Contraception

Apparently this method of contraception is just as effective as The Pill. However, it does entail a bit more effort on your part if you want it to work. And there you were thinking that remembering to pop-a-pill every evening for 39 weeks a year was difficult enough.

Abortion – the changing laws

Not the easiest of  topics to approach as most people seem to have a very strong opinion on it. However, seeing as there has recently been a vote in Portugal and in the news the other day I read that more than 1 in 10 women between their late 20’s and early 30’s have had an abortion while in a long-term relationship, I felt it an interesting, yet controversial subject, to investigate.

How many children is ‘right’?

The answer to this question is obviously a personal one, as each and every one of us has a reason behind the amount of children we actually bring into this world. However, there is always that one person (or sometimes maybe more) who feel it is their business to comment on your decision/possibilities/desire to procreate.
